It will be another way of representing the country when Eumir Marcial puts his unbeaten win-loss-draw record on the line when he battles Omar Ulises Huerta in a 10-round middleweight showdown on 19 September at the Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, California.

“I am proud to represent the Philippines on this big stage,” Marcial, 30, said in a social media post.

He enters the ring armed with a 7-0-0 card with four knockouts.

Huerta, who is of Mexican descent, packs a 15-1-1 ledger with 13 knockouts.

Marcial was supposed to see action in the 20th Asian Games set to open shop in about two weeks in Japan but opted to resume his professional career instead.

One factor why Marcial chose to prioritize his pro career was the non-inclusion of his weight class — 75 kilograms — in the Asian Games and even in the Olympics.

The plan is for Marcial to rack up as many wins as he can as his American promoter Sean Gibbons would love to see him fight for the world crown in 2027.

But out to derail everything is Huerta, who has vowed to finish what Venezuelan Eddy Colmenares could not when he clashed with Marcial in October last year at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

In that fight, Colmenares sent Marcial down two times but lost on a majority decision.

Still, Marcial is still not closing the door on the possibility of donning the national colors once again with his eye trained on a stint in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

That could become a reality in the event Marcial’s pro career fizzles out.

But as of this moment, Marcial is laser-focused on giving Huerta a bad beating.

“Winning a world title is my priority right now,” added Marcial, whose training camp in Las Vegas is being supervised by Kay Koroma, training assistant Reynaldo Galido of the Philippine team and sparmates Freddie Rojas and Elijah Garcia.
