ASHOF gets 15 new members

    Ateneo is set to induct new members to its famed Ateneo Sports Hall of Fame (ASHOF) this September.

    Fifteen new honorees will be feted on 27 September which includes 13 athletes whose achievements exemplify Ateneo’s definition of dominance in their respective sports; and two coaches who combined for 24 University Athletic Association of the Philippines High School Track and Field championship, including an unprecedented 19 consecutive titles.

    ASHOF Special Awards shall likewise be bestowed upon two individuals in appreciation and recognition of their extraordinary and significant personal contribution to Ateneo sports.

    Established in 1979, the Ateneo Sports Hall of Fame has an illustrious roster which includes the likes of Sen. Ambrosio Padilla, school greats Moro Lorenzo, Ed Ocampo, Baby Dalupan, Ricky Palou, father and son Paquito and Louie Rabat, Joy Carpio, Steve Watson, brothers Chito and Ogie Narvasa, Danny Francisco, and coaches Chot Reyes and Norman Black.

    The last Ateneo Sports Hall of Fame induction was in 2018. Honorees included Dr. Marcel Banzon for track and field, Black for men’s basketball as coach, and Dr. Juny Lim for high school and men’s track and field.

    Peachy Cheng-Medina, a former women’s basketball, football, and track and field athlete, became the Hall’s first female inductee.

    In total, 167 individuals have been enshrined in the ASHOF together with 34 special awardees and 10 special citations.

    The names of the awardees will be announced on 6 September at the blessing and inauguration of the Ateneo Sports Hall of Fame Gallery of Excellence at the Blue Eagle Gym.
