  • Motorists often pay close attention to oil changes, tire pressure and scheduled maintenance, but the fuel that goes into the tank also affects how an engine performs over time.

Caltex advises drivers to begin with the fuel type and octane rating stated in the vehicle handbook. Using a higher octane fuel than required does not automatically make it the better choice. Fuel additives and their effect on engine deposits should also be considered.

Deposits can collect on key engine parts after repeated use. Detergent additives are designed to control this buildup and help keep the engine clean. Different fuel products, however, use different additive packages.

Caltex fuels contain Techron, an additive developed to help prevent deposits and reduce friction between metal surfaces within the engine. Its formulation uses the brand’s Clean & Glide Technology, which supports engine cleanliness and steady performance over time.

The Techron-powered range sold locally covers gasoline and diesel vehicles. Caltex Platinum with Techron and Caltex Silver with Techron serve gasoline engines. Diesel motorists can choose between Caltex Diesel with Techron D and Caltex Power Diesel with Techron D.

Fuel price will continue to influence motorists at the pump, especially when every peso counts. However, price and octane rating do not provide the full picture of a fuel product. Car owners should follow the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation first.
