TACLOBAN CITY — Police rescued a 20-year-old man who attempted to jump from the San Juanico Bridge before dawn Wednesday, 26 August.
The 805th Maneuver Company said the man, identified only as alias “Ivan,” is a resident of Barangay Tominamos in Sta. Rita, Samar.
At about 3 a.m., motorcycle patrollers led by Patrolman Mar Anthony Cirera saw the man, who was a passenger on a fish-delivery tricycle, suddenly go over the side of the bridge.
The man was caught by the bridge’s outer metal railings, preventing him from falling.
The patrollers immediately called the 805th Rescue Team, which safely brought him back from the bridge’s metal structure.
Two relatives who later arrived at the scene told responding officers that the man had been experiencing personal problems.
Police accompanied the man and his family to the Eastern Visayas Medical Center, where he underwent medical evaluation and received appropriate care and assistance.
The 805th Maneuver Company reminded people experiencing personal crises or difficult circumstances to seek help from family, friends, medical professionals or other available support services.
