Ortega assumes Ilocos regional peace council chair

La Union Gov. Mario Eduardo C. Ortega formally assumed the chairmanship of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) in Ilocos Region after taking his oath of office on 24 August.
DILG Region 1 Director Jonathan Paul M. Leusen Jr. administered Ortega’s oath at the Provincial Capitol in San Fernando City.
As RPOC chair, Ortega will lead coordination among government agencies, local governments and other stakeholders on peace and order, public safety, crime prevention and security concerns in the region.
Ortega said the post carries a responsibility beyond La Union, particularly amid security concerns affecting the country, including developments in the West Philippine Sea.
He also stressed the importance of coordination among sectors involved in maintaining peace and security, citing La Union’s “La Union: Agkaysa” battle cry.
