Community search continues for missing girl

SAGADA, Mountain Province — Fourteen days of intensive searching for missing minor Sofia Isabela Magalgalit Oria have ended under formal incident command, but the search itself continues — with local residents, volunteers and family members now taking a larger role in the effort.
The Incident Command Post (ICP) at Dagdag Base has been deactivated after coordinating daily ground operations for two weeks. The Emergency Operations Center, however, remains active to coordinate incoming information and monitor field tracking in Sagada and neighboring areas along the Chico River in Kalinga.
The 14-day operation brought together government responders, civilian volunteers, specialized K9 handlers and local guides who scoured dangerous mountain terrain, waterways, caves and forests in an effort to locate Sofia.
Ground teams also monitored river channels extending toward downstream areas in neighboring towns.
Sofia was last seen on the night of 8 August and was reported missing the following day.
The closure of the ICP follows earlier adjustments to the search operation, including temporary scaling back of activities to observe local traditional rest periods and allow exhausted responders and community members to recover before full-scale operations resumed.
While formal incident command protocols have now been stepped down, the community-led search continues.
Residents, municipal volunteers and Sofia’s family are conducting targeted sweeps, focusing on possible leads and physical evidence along known trails and river systems.
Authorities continue to appeal to the public for verified sightings or information that could help locate Sofia. Anyone with relevant information is urged to immediately contact local emergency representatives.
