Senator Christopher “Bong” Go expressed support for confirming the ad interim appointments and nominations of 38 generals, flag officers and senior officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), saying their promotions recognize their years of service and the greater responsibilities that come with their new ranks.

During the Commission on Appointments deliberations, Go seconded the motion to confirm the appointments and congratulated the military officials, citing their leadership, competence, professionalism and dedication to the country.

“To all our distinguished appointees, allow me to extend my warmest congratulations and deepest appreciation for your years of dedicated and honorable service to our country,” he added.

Go said the officials’ advancement in rank comes with greater responsibility to uphold the AFP’s commitment to serving and protecting the Filipino people.

He stressed that promotion to higher military positions carries responsibilities that extend far beyond the recognition attached to rank.

“These appointments recognize your leadership, competence and professionalism, as well as the trust placed in you by our nation. The responsibilities that come with your new ranks are not merely distinctions, but a greater call to serve,” he said.

Family shares mission

Go particularly underscored the enormous responsibility entrusted to General Antonio Navarete, noting the scale of the institution and population that military leaders are duty-bound to protect.

“More than 160,000 officers and personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, as well as the welfare of more than 110 million Filipinos, are in your hands,” he said.

The senator also paid tribute to the families of military personnel, recognizing the sacrifices that accompany a life of public service.

“To all the appointees, we thank you and your families for the sacrifices you have made in the service of our country,” he said.

Go pointed out that military service often entails prolonged separation from loved ones and exposure to danger as they fulfill the responsibility of safeguarding the nation and its people.

“We recognize that behind every uniform is a commitment that often requires personal sacrifice, time away from loved ones, and the courage to face risks in the performance of duty,” he said.
