Filipinos across generations are putting money aside not just for major purchases, but for experiences, emergencies and long-term financial security, according to savings data from financial services platform Maya.

Travel emerged as one of the top two savings priorities across all generations in Maya’s customer base, challenging the notion that vacations are primarily a goal among younger Filipinos. Travel is also among the most frequently created goals on Maya Personal Goals, where users can set aside funds for specific plans.

    Savings and emergency funds

Beyond travel, savings and emergency funds remain common priorities across age groups, reflecting a broader push for financial preparedness. Investments and retirement also become more prominent as Filipinos move through different stages of life.

The data also showed that financial goals shift with age. Younger users tend to save for education, gadgets and travel, while older generations place greater emphasis on retirement and long-term financial security.

    Increasingly building long-term savings

Maya said younger Filipinos are also increasingly building long-term savings. Millennials, Gen Z and Gen Alpha account for the largest groups of active Time Deposit Plus users, suggesting that long-term financial planning is gaining traction among younger customers.

Meanwhile, older users recorded larger average deposits per transaction, reflecting their longer period of building financial capacity.

Overall, the data suggests that while savings goals change with life stages, the underlying goal remains the same: being financially prepared for the future.
