The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday said it would comply with the Sandiganbayan’s order for former Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan to appear and testify in the trial of former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla on 12 August.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. directed the PNP Health Service to coordinate with the Sandiganbayan regarding Bonoan’s scheduled appearance while taking his medical needs into account.

“We have directed the PNP Health Service to fully comply with the Sandiganbayan order and ensure that Mr. Bonoan is brought before the court as scheduled. His medical condition and safety will remain a priority throughout the process,” Nartatez said.

The Sandiganbayan Third Division said it issued a subpoena on 7 August, which was served at the PNP General Hospital, where the 80-year-old Bonoan is under hospital arrest because of diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease and other ailments.

The court directed the PNP Health Service to produce Bonoan, who is expected to testify against Revilla before the Sandiganbayan.

Nartatez said the PNP Health Service would ensure that Bonoan’s transfer and court appearance were carried out with the necessary security and medical support. The PNP will also coordinate with court authorities and police units to ensure the orderly implementation of the Sandiganbayan order.

“The PNP respects the authority of the courts and will ensure that all lawful orders are properly implemented. We will provide the necessary security and assistance while respecting the medical needs of persons under our custody,” Nartatez said.
