BAGUIO CITY-- The search, rescue and retrieval operation at the landslides area at Sitio Riverside, Purok 2, Barangay Guisad Surong, Baguio City come to an end at 2:50 AM of 11 August 2026 after emergency personnel accounted for all 13 reported victims.

At 2:30 AM of the said date, the last remaining missing victim who is an eight-year old child was retrieved at ground zero.

Official updates from the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) confirmed that among the 13 victims, 10 individuals died and there are three survivors. 

At around 7:20 PM of 9 August 2026, the soil at Purok 2, Guisad Surong collapsed hitting three houses and affecting five families. The landslide happened following relentless rains generated by the enhanced southwest monsoon. 

Responders from the Baguio City Police, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), disaster management personnel, and local community volunteers conducted search and rescue operations under heavy rains and hazardous conditions. Four were extracted from the debris moments after the incident on August 9, 2026 where one was confirmed dead at the site, nine were missing. The three were rushed to the hospital

In the the early morning of Monday, August 10, 2026, the death toll rose to four and it became eight by Monday night. At August 11, 2026, the last two missing victims were retrieved.

The landslide displaced 21 families or around 70 individuals as they were evacuated for safety measures. The families were relocated to temporary shelters at the Guisad Surong Barangay Hall and the nearby Baguio International Academy. Social workers from the City Government and the Department of Social Welfare and  Development (DSWD) and other government agencies established necessary assistance to the families affected.

With the conclusion of the search and retrieval efforts, the operation will shift to slope stabilization, drainage restoration, and structural clearing. Public safety officials continue to urge residents across Baguio's hillside communities to adhere to evacuation orders and remain alert, as prolonged soil saturation maintains an elevated risk of further ground erosion.
