  • CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) raided an illegal liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) refilling shop and arrested a 59-year-old suspect in Barangay Indahag on Thursday.

Police Maj. Jerson Soliven, chief of the CIDG-Cagayan de Oro City Field Unit, said the suspect was caught in the act of illegally refilling LPG cylinders inside a makeshift shop at Block 8, Sitio Lomboy, in the upland village of Indahag.

The raid formed part of the CIDG’s continuing campaign against unauthorized LPG refilling operations, which authorities said pose serious safety risks to households, particularly in remote and upland communities.

Authorities seized several empty LPG cylinders and refilling equipment believed to have been used in the illegal operation.

Barangay Kagawad Naza Uayan and members of the barangay tanod witnessed the implementation of the search warrant.

The suspect is facing charges for alleged violation of Republic Act 11592, or the LPG Industry Regulation Act, and Presidential Decree No. 1865, also known as the Oil Pilferage Law.
