A minor was placed under custodial procedure after allegedly posting threats on social media, prompting the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) to intensify cyber investigations and security measures across the province.

The PPPO said the minor, accompanied by a parent, was located by police in Rosales at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, 19 July, through cyber investigation, intelligence monitoring, and follow-up operations.

Police said the operation was conducted in accordance with laws and protocols governing children in conflict with the law, with the minor's rights observed throughout the process.

Authorities recovered a pellet gun and a baseball bat allegedly used in producing a video containing the reported threats. The items are now in the custody of the Rosales Police Station for documentation and further investigation.

The minor will be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for appropriate intervention and other legal procedures, police said.

The incident came amid heightened security measures across Pangasinan following the circulation of threatening messages on social media and other online platforms that caused concern among students, parents, teachers, and school personnel.

The PPPO said cyber investigations and intelligence gathering remain ongoing to identify other individuals who may have been involved in spreading the online threats.

Police have also increased visibility around schools and other public areas through intensified foot and mobile patrols while coordinating with school administrators, local government units, and partner agencies to facilitate the immediate verification of and response to reported threats.

Provincial Director Police Colonel Dennis L. De Leon said authorities are treating every reported threat seriously.

"We assure the public that every reported threat is acted upon immediately and investigated thoroughly. We will continue to respond swiftly, professionally, and in accordance with the law while ensuring that the rights of everyone involved are protected," De Leon said.

De Leon also urged parents and guardians to monitor their children's social media activity and educate them on the responsible use of digital platforms, warning that posting threats, false information, or other alarming online content may result in criminal liability.

He likewise urged the public to avoid sharing unverified information and to immediately report suspicious activities or online threats to the nearest police station.

The PPPO said it will continue strengthening cyber monitoring, intelligence operations, and police visibility to help ensure public safety across Pangasinan.
