The Provincial Government of Zambales has vowed to fully support the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) to ensure that Zambales remains as the "Cradle of Filipino Seafarers" in the Philippines.
During the PMMA's Commencement Ceremony of the Salaghirang Class of 2026 at the PMMA Complex in San Narciso, Zambales on 17 July 2026, Governor Hermogenes E. Ebdane Jr. said that the Provincial Government will continue to support the programs and initiatives of the educational institution in shaping skilled and responsible Filipino seafarers who will help in the development of the province and the country.
Ebdane welcomed the arrival of President Ferdinand E. Marcos Jr. along with 2nd District Congw. Doris Maniquiz.
Commodore Joel Y. Abutal, PMMA Superintendent, led the commencement exercise along with CHED Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis and DOTr Acting Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez.
Around 327 midshipmen graduated at the PMMA, including 146 graduates of Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) and 181 graduates of Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMarE).
Zambaleño pride was also felt during the graduation as P/ENS Yeoj E. Lapeña of the town of Masinloc, was hailed as the Academic Excellence Awardee, Cum Laude, and Rank 2 in Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation. Another Zambaleño was also hailed during the graduation, P/ENS Arnaud Russel F. Amagna, who earned the Academic Excellence Awardee and Rank 4 in Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation.

Arangkada Zambaleño!" Governor Ebdane said.
About 21,305 seafarers reside in the Bataan, Olongapo, and Zambales corridor. With the Philippines acting as the world's leading supplier of global maritime crews, Zambales remains a major hub for maritime talent, supported by local training institutions like the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy in San Narciso.
