Lasting peace is the cornerstone of economic development, as Vice President Sara Duterte cited the transformation of Nunungan, Lanao del Norte, as she urged local governments, civil society and communities to remain united in pursuing progress in the municipality.
In a social media post, VP Duterte reflected on her visit last month to the municipality’s 60th Araw ng Nunungan celebration at the Nunungan Government Center Gymnasium in Barangay Abaga, where she said the town’s journey from conflict to stability underscored the importance of peace in nation-building.
She described the anniversary celebration as “a story of courage and transformation,” saying Nunungan had shed the instability that once marked the municipality through effective governance and the collective efforts of its people.
“Everything starts with peace. This is essential to achieving development. A safe, peaceful, and well-managed community attracts businesses and investors, which in turn generate employment opportunities for local residents,” Duterte said.
The Vice President said peace creates conditions for investment and employment, arguing that communities can only achieve sustained growth when security and stability are firmly established.
Shared commitment underscored
She also appealed for continued cooperation among local governments, civil society organizations and residents, saying development depends on a shared commitment to the common good.
“My fellow Filipinos, nothing is impossible when everyone works together — including the local government, civil society, and the community itself,” she said.
