Alas Pilipinas fights for survival against powerhouse Indonesia to close the group stage of the 2026 Southeast Asian Volleyball Cup today at the Candon City Arena in Ilocos Sur.
With their backs against the wall, the Filipinos have no other alternative but to prevail over last year’s second leg champion and world No. 44 Indonesians in their 5:30 p.m. Pool A clash.
Alas fell victim to Cambodia, 23-25, 30-28, 20-25, 25-22, 8-15, in a disappointing debut last Wednesday that left the 90th-ranked Alas the gargantuan task of overcoming the Asian Volleyball Confederation Men’s Cup champion Indonesia.
The Philippines missed the podium in the annual regional tournament’s two stops in the last edition.
Joshua Magalaman and Jude Garcia are expected to once again lead Alas after exploding for 21 and 20 points, respectively, in the first game.
“We just need to follow the game plan of coach (Angiolino) Frigoni. Execute what he wants us to do in the game. We just have to be prepared against Indonesia,” Garcia said.
“We have to double, if not triple the effort we’ve shown last game.”
Indonesia is still playing its first game against the Cambodians as of press time.
Meanwhile, Thailand breezed into the semifinals after dominating Myanmar, 25-15, 25-16, 25-19.
Nadapet Bhinijdee and Chaiwat Thungkham sustained their fine form as the Thais notched its second win in as many matches in Pool B play.
Bhinijdee scored 17 on 13 attacks, two blocks and two aces, while Thungkham had 10 points on nine attacks and an ace as Thailand gets a day off ahead of the semis.
Vietnam and Myanmar battle today for the last Final Four seat in the pool.
