The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Wednesday that Super Typhoon Inday, internationally named "Bavi," has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), prompting the raising of Wind Signal No. 1 over 12 areas in Luzon.
The state weather bureau reported that "Inday" remains offshore and is still far from the Philippine archipelago, but its thin outer cloud bands are already affecting parts of the country.
"Earlier today at 10 a.m.," Super Typhoon Inday was estimated to be located 1,270 kilometers east of Northern Luzon,” Duty Weather Forecaster Engr. Chris Perez said.
“It is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 195 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 240 kilometers per hour,” he added.
Following the typhoon's continued approach, PAGASA raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over 12 areas in Luzon, with strong winds ranging from 39 to 61 kilometers per hour expected in Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao, Kalinga, Isabela, the northern portions of Aurora and Abra, the northern and central portions of Catanduanes, the northeastern portion of Quirino, the eastern portions of Ifugao and Mountain Province, and Ilocos Norte.
PAGASA reported that Super Typhoon Inday is forecast to be 875 kilometers east of Northern Luzon on Thursday, 515 kilometers east of Itbayat, Batanes on Friday, and 470 kilometers north northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, near the boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), on Saturday.
“By the time Sunday morning arrives, totally, it will already be outside the PAR at a distance of 915 kilometers north-northwest of Extreme Northern Luzon,” Perez said while presenting the forecast track of Super Typhoon Inday.
