Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced Tuesday the upcoming release of P688.9 million in cash benefits and social allowances for nearly 360,000 residents and civil servants.
The funds, certified by City Treasurer Paul Vega, will be distributed across three programs beginning Wednesday.
Domagoso said that the city government is funding P611.1 million of the total package, while the remaining P77.8 million is being provided by the national government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
“We are allocating roughly P688.9 million to be released this July,” Domagoso said during his “Talk to the People” Facebook livestream.
The first tranche of payouts, totaling P158.8 million, will run from 8 to 11 July. This phase covers city-funded ordinances providing quarterly allowances to local uniformed personnel and education sectors.
Under the program, 4,447 Manila Police District officers, 358 Bureau of Fire Protection personnel, and 431 Bureau of Jail Management and Penology personnel will each receive P2,500 monthly for the period of April to June.
Additionally, 12,466 public school teachers will receive a P2,000 monthly incentive for the same three-month period, while 5,524 Grade 12 students will receive a P500 allowance for June.
College students enrolled in the city’s local universities — 9,155 at Universidad de Manila and 7,869 at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila — will receive P1,000 monthly for April and May.
The largest portion of the budget, P452.4 million, will be distributed from 22 to 24 July under the city’s monetary allowance program. This phase will provide P500 per month for April to June to 11,515 minors with disabilities, 51,766 adults with disabilities, and 17,281 solo parents.
Manila’s 212,553 senior citizens will also receive their three-month city allowance of P500 per month during the late-July window, totaling P331.4 million.
Domagoso stressed that the city’s senior program does not discriminate based on socioeconomic status.
“In the city of Manila, the program we started and continue to implement makes no distinction — poor, middle class, or wealthy,” Domagoso said. “This means all senior citizens qualify, as long as they meet the age requirement and reside in Manila.”
Furthermore, 25,930 indigent senior citizens registered with the DSWD will receive an additional P1,000 per month for the same period from the national government’s social pension program, effectively giving them two separate sets of benefits.
