
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has deployed more than 6,000 police officers to secure the Senate complex during the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
NCRPO spokesperson Police Major Hazel Asilo said additional personnel will deployed in the Senate area if needed, adding that only one group ftom a nearby area is expected to stage protest action.
The NCRPO maintained a "no permit, no rally" policy but said that it remains open to groups wishing to stage protests.
Asilo also said that the police would implement maximum tolerance if ever some protesters would attempt to force their way closer to the Senate premises, noting that authorities are open to dialogue and negotiation through designated teams, while public order units remain on standby if necessary.
The NCRPO doesn't yet have the number on how many protesters are expected to join the protest actions, but stressed it is always ready to address any security situation that may arise during the demonstrations.
Meanwhile, the local government of Pasay City will temporarily close a stretch of Diokno Boulevard near the Senate during the vice president's impeachment trial.
The city government said it will temporarily close both the northbound and southbound lanes from Seaside Boulevard to Atang dela Rama Street, including intersections along the affected stretch.
The traffic scheme will take effect starting on Monday, 6 July, will be enforced every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
