Colorful with ribbons, balloons, decorative arches, dances, music and rainbow flags brightened Villar Foundation Complex as members of the LGBTIQ+ community, their families, and allies from the 20 barangays of Las Piñas City were gathered together on 4 July for the third Las Piñas Pride.

Organized by the Villar Foundation, the event was in celebration of LGBTIQ+ Pride Month in June and aimed to promote diversity and inclusivity.

Las Piñas Pride started with a parade at about three in the afternoon, leading to The Tent, where the beauty pageant Binibining Bahaghari was held. Outstanding LGBTIQ+ individuals from Las Piñas were also recognized at the Las Piñas Pride Awards for their contributions in various fields.

The event was graced by former Senator Cynthia Villar, who said that the event is more than a celebration of Pride but also a “celebration of people who have the courage to be true to themselves” and continue to contribute to their families, communities and nation.

In his welcome remarks, Senator Mark Villar recognized LGBTIQ+ contributions to society and promised to mount Las Piñas Pride every year and undertake measures to curb discrimination against the community.

The Las Piñas Pride Awards were bestowed to Abiden N. Tayanes in the field of education and the academe; Gene Francis C. Sayson in the field of fashion, culture and the arts; Marilou U. Gervacio in the field of community service and livelihood; Ana Alicia Katrina I. Castillo in the field of sports; Mark John R. Bañares in the field of youth leadership, who received Villar Foundation trophies and cash incentives of P20,000.
