SM Foundation has welcomed 1,100 new college scholars for Academic Year 2026-2027, marking the largest batch accepted into its scholarship program since its establishment.
The scholars were formally introduced during the foundation’s Scholarship Awarding Ceremony held on 3 July in Pasay City, underscoring the organization’s commitment to expanding access to higher education for financially challenged but deserving Filipino students.
According to SM Foundation, the newest scholars join thousands of beneficiaries nationwide who have pursued higher education through the program, many of whom have gone on to build meaningful careers and support their families and communities.
Established by SM founder Henry “Tatang” Sy Sr., the SM College Scholarship Program was built on the belief that education is among the most effective tools for breaking the cycle of poverty and creating opportunities for social mobility. Beyond financial assistance, the program provides scholars with support designed to help them develop the knowledge, values, and confidence needed to succeed in their academic and professional pursuits.
The awarding ceremony also featured an interactive session that encouraged scholars to reflect on challenges they may face throughout their college journey. Discussions focused on resilience, adaptability, and maintaining a strong sense of purpose in overcoming obstacles and achieving long-term goals.
Since its inception, the SM College Scholarship Program has supported 7,376 scholars and produced 4,640 graduates.
The foundation said the new batch of scholars carries not only the support of SM Foundation but also the opportunity to create a lasting impact on their families, communities, and the nation through education.
In addition, 10 outstanding STEM students were named scholars for the 2026-2027 academic year through scholarships sponsored by Mastercard under The SM Store’s Shop & Share program.
