MGEN Thermal has completed the ahead-of-schedule restoration of Panay Energy Development Corp. (PEDC) Unit 3, returning the 278.4-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Iloilo City to the grid after an equipment failure in May.
The company said the unit was successfully synchronized to the grid following an intensive engineering and restoration program focused on safety, technical rigor, and operational excellence.
"The successful return of PEDC Unit 3 reflects the strength of our engineering capabilities, disciplined execution, and the dedication of our people and partners," said Arnel L. Santos, president and CEO of MGEN Thermal.
The restoration involved engineering assessments, forensic investigations, equipment repairs, extensive testing, and coordination with original equipment manufacturers, independent technical experts, contractors, and the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines.
According to MGEN, lessons from the restoration will be incorporated into its engineering standards and asset management framework to further improve the reliability of its power generation fleet.
PEDC operates a 278.4-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Iloilo City using circulating fluidized bed technology. The facility supplies electricity to Panay Island and parts of the Visayas, supporting regional energy security and economic activity.
