After 10 years, Jaylen Brown leaves the Boston Celtics to join the Philadelphia 76ers.
Brown was originally drafted 3rd overall by the organization in 2016 and prior to the 2023/2024 season, he was regarded as the secondary scoring option playing second fiddle to Jayson Tatum.
The five-time All-Star, two-time All-NBA Second Team, 2024 ECF MVP, and Finals MVP reportedly never requested a trade, as per sports journalist Shams Charania.
The Celtics have agreed to send Jaylen Brown to Philadelphia for Paul George alongside two first-round picks and two second-round picks.
The former franchise star was apparently left out of the loop regarding the trade rumors surrounding him before being sent to Eastern Conference rivals. He accredited the trade to his falling out with the front office.
“I wasn’t thrilled with how the conversation was facilitated. I did feel like it was a lack of respect. At one point it was fine, and then out of nowhere it just went left. I definitely think there’s more to it," the 29-year-old guard forward said on a Twitch livestream.
"I know Brad is getting a lot of criticism, but I just wish more of it could have been explained. I just wish they had the respect to tell me exactly what it was, and I would have understood and respected that…" he added.
He later on clarified that there is no bad blood between him and his former teammates.
"Some of the guys have already reached out from the Celtics, some of the young guys, so I appreciate them… The guys I was able to build with, those guys who reached out to me, all told me, ‘It was a pleasure to play with you, and I appreciate everything that you helped me with,’ so that’s the stuff that gives you more motivation to keep going.”
The Los Angeles Lakers have used up all their first round picks for the next seven years after offseason acquisitions.
After parting ways with Lebron James, the franchise seems to be building a team around new undisputed first-option Luka Dončić.
Los Angeles then announced their acquisition of center Walker Kessler from the Utah Jazz for two unprotected first-round picks and two first-round pick swaps.
Kessler signs four-year worth $130 million with the Lakers.
Quentin Grimes has also landed in LA from free agency, where he agreed to a four-year, $60 million to join the Lakers organization with a player option.
Forward Sandro Mamukelashvili also joined the Lakeshow for a four-year $32 million deal.
Fans on X have quipped about the projected starting lineup, calling it "Snowtime Lakers"
