“By utilizing robotic precision to shorten hospital stays, minimize surgical trauma, and reduce post-operative complications, we aim to create a more affordable and sustainable healthcare system for ordinary Filipino families over time
Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC) is reshaping the Philippine operating room landscape with the acquisition of a new state-of-the-art multi-port robotic surgical system designed to make advanced healthcare more affordable and accessible.
Aligned with its commitment to bridging the gap between medical innovation and patient accessibility, the hospital’s new robotic surgery platform is expected to serve a wider range of specialized surgical needs.
“Advanced healthcare should not just exist for those who can easily afford it; it must be reachable,” CSMC President and CEO Raul C. Pagdanganan said during the inauguration, highlighting the high cost of specialized treatment in the country.
A major part of the initiative is the hospital’s team of 40 pioneering robotics-certified multi-specialty doctors who underwent extensive training to operate the new technology. They are equipped to handle both simple and complex surgical procedures in urology, hepatic and pancreatic surgery, thoracic surgery, gynecology, and gastroenterology.
According to Pagdanganan, the investment in robotic systems is not being positioned as a premium luxury but as a longterm strategy to help lower overall healthcare costs.
“By utilizing robotic precision to shorten hospital stays, minimize surgical trauma, and reduce post-operative complications, we aim to create a more affordable and sustainable healthcare system for ordinary Filipino families over time,” he said.
Hospital of f icials also stressed that innovation only becomes truly meaningful when placed in the hands of skilled and compassionate healthcare professionals. While technology enhances care, they said compassion, sound judgment, and trust between doctor and patient will always remain central to healing.
The new robotic system is expected to improve operating room coordination, integrate multiple surgical technologies, and simplify procedures requiring various instruments, helping optimize workflow and reduce delays.
For CSMC, the new robotic surgery platform marks a major step toward achieving its three-fold commitment to excellence embodied in its motto: “Human Skill. Robotic Precision. Cardinal Care.”
