A jobless Chinese man surnamed Wan went viral on social media after asking a food merchant on a delivery app to give him a bigger serving of rice with his 13-yuan order.
“Please give me more rice. I was recently fired and haven’t received my salary yet. I can only eat one meal per day. Please!” Wan wrote in a note to the restaurant, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported, citing Jiupai News.
Wan received significantly more rice than usual, plus a written message on the lid of the meal container inviting him to apply for a job at the restaurant. He took a video of the meal and the message and posted it on his social media account.
The video attracted 40 million views and nearly four million likes, with commenters praising the restaurant owner’s kindness, according to SCMP.
“I only intended to ask for more rice. I just wanted to feel full. But look at the lid... the restaurant owner wants me to thrive,” SCMP quoted Wan as saying in his post.
Wan contacted the owner and plans to work as an apprentice while documenting his new work experience through videos, SCMP reported.
Meanwhile, a zoo in Luohe City, Henan province, quickly filled a job vacancy it advertised on social media.
The annual salary of 100,000 yuan indicated in the hiring notice not only proved enticing but also caused the job advertisement, posted on 13 June, to go viral online, according to Jiupai News.
There were no gender restrictions for applicants, but they had to be physically fit, at least 18 years old, and willing to work six-hour shifts with four days off each month, the advertisement stated.
The position required the employee to engage with tourists and accept food offerings, but not speak to them. They could also do whatever felt comfortable.
“You can act in the most nonsensical ways. The more bizarre, the more popular you’ll be,” the advertisement emphasized, SCMP reported.
One netizen, however, expressed concern about the job, which required wearing a black bear costume, roaming around the zoo and interacting with visitors, SCMP reported.
“It’s not an easy job. Summers in Henan can be quite hot, and imagine wearing that costume!” SCMP quoted one netizen as commenting on the advertisement.
