The United States' newly appointed ambassador to the Philippines, Lee Lipton, has arrived in Manila to begin his diplomatic posting as Washington and Manila continue to commemorate 80 years of bilateral relations.
In a social media post on Sunday, the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines welcomed Lipton's arrival and expressed optimism about his leadership.
"Mabuhay and welcome back to the Philippines, U.S. Ambassador Lee Lipton! We look forward to your leadership as we continue to mark #USPH80 and #Freedom250," the embassy said in a social media post Sunday.
The embassy also reaffirmed the enduring alliance between the Philippines and the United States under the theme "Friends, Partners, Allies."
Lipton was appointed by U.S. President Donald Trump in October 2025, succeeding Ambassador MaryKay Carlson, who served in Manila for more than three years.
A businessman from Florida, Lipton is the first non-career American diplomat appointed as U.S. ambassador to the Philippines in recent history. Before his appointment, he served as Interim Permanent Representative to the United States Mission to the Organization of American States.
His arrival comes amid continued efforts by both countries to deepen cooperation in areas including economic engagement, security, regional collaboration and people-to-people ties.
Earlier this year, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez met with Lipton in Washington to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations. According to the Philippine Embassy in Washington, the discussions covered economic cooperation, security partnerships and opportunities in emerging sectors such as critical minerals processing, energy, advanced manufacturing and resilient supply chains.
The meeting also touched on the Philippines' upcoming 2026 chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the country's bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
Before entering public service, Lipton built and led an apparel business in New York City, overseeing licensed collections for international brands including Calvin Klein, St. John Knits and Guess. He later expanded into the hospitality industry, owning several oceanfront restaurants in Florida.
