A Filipino voice has once again captured the world’s attention—this time on one of the biggest talent stages in the UK.

Matty Juniosa, a former contestant from The Voice of the Philippines and Idol Philippines, delivered a career-defining moment on Britain’s Got Talent, earning the coveted Golden Buzzer after a show-stopping performance of Prince’s “Purple Rain.” With one press from judge Simon Cowell, the Glasgow-based singer secured an automatic spot in the live semifinals—marking a turning point in his journey from local hopeful to international standout.

For Matty, the moment was nothing short of surreal.

“I’m not gonna lie, I was hoping there’s gonna be a golden buzzer. When that golden buzzer was pressed, I was…’Thank You Looord!!!’ If you noticed me, screaming with my arms out. I just wanted to take it all in,” he shared.

The weight of the achievement carried years of dreams, sacrifices, and persistence behind it.

“How rare is this moment. I have been dreaming of it for years, since I was a child. All the hard work, all the effort that paid off and come to this moment,” he added.

His audition quickly went viral, drawing praise not only for his powerful vocals but also for the pride he carried as a Filipino artist on a global stage. In a symbolic gesture, Matty even kept pieces of the golden confetti that rained down during his Golden Buzzer moment—turning them into personal keepsakes of a life-changing experience.

“I’m so proud to be Filipino through and through because everything that I love about myself its because it Filipino.”

“Its very Filipino of me to sharon some confetti. It’s literary here with me because I would forget it’s an actual thing that happened. I didn’t dream that. It actually happened,” he said.

Beyond personal triumph, Matty made it clear that his win is rooted in something bigger than himself.

“I’m humbled that I was able to do that for the Filipino people. I dedicate all of this to my family. Number two, I offer it to the Filipino people.”

“The Filipino people who believed in me back home, from the greatest artist to the friends I had growing up.. the best audience I’d ever have will always be Filipino. So offer it to the Filipino people who’s struggle to find spot in the world.”

“Thirdly, I want to offer it also to Glasgow which served as my second home,” he continued.

Matty’s journey to this global platform has been years in the making. He first gained national attention in 2019 as a Top 12 finalist on Idol Philippines, where he introduced his vocal prowess to a wider audience. Following the competition, he became part of the all-male vocal group iDolls, alongside fellow contestants Enzo Almario and Lucas Garcia, further honing his artistry through collaborations and original music.

In 2022, he took a bold leap—relocating to Glasgow to pursue musical theater studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The move not only expanded his artistic range but also opened doors to international opportunities. As a theater performer, Matty has taken on diverse roles, including Lola in Kinky Boots and Clopin in The Hunchback of Notre Dameduring the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, later portraying characters in productions like Oscar at the Crown and Ne Zha.

Even beyond the stage, he remained consistent in sharing his talent online, performing covers that showcased both his vocal range and emotional depth—from Broadway hits like “Defying Gravity” to OPM classics.

Now, with a Golden Buzzer moment that has resonated across continents, Matty Juniosa stands as a powerful reminder of the global impact of Filipino artistry. His journey—from local competitions to international acclaim—reflects not just talent, but resilience, identity, and an unwavering belief in one’s dreams.

As he heads into the Britain’s Got Talent semifinals this April, one thing is certain: the world is listening—and this time, it’s listening to a Filipino voice louder than ever before.
