Philippine Army troops recovered a cache of firearms and explosives during an intelligence-driven operation in Bukidnon last 27 March, military officials said.

The 89th Infantry (Makatao) Battalion, led by Lt. Col. Antonio G. Bulao I, conducted the sweep in the villages of Kipaypayon and Mahayag. The operation resulted in the seizure of nearly 20 weapons and several improvised explosive devices.

According to a military report, the recovered arsenal included two M79 grenade launchers, two KG9 submachine guns, three improvised shotguns, and a variety of handguns, including a .45-caliber pistol and several revolvers.

In addition to the firearms, soldiers seized two improvised explosive devices, a hand grenade, two unserviceable handheld radios, and various rounds of ammunition.

Subversive documents and spare firearm parts were also found at the site.

All items were transported to the battalion’s headquarters for proper disposition.

Bulao credited the success of the operation to the cooperation of local residents, who provided timely information to the authorities.

He said their involvement is essential in preventing the use of terrorist weapons and disrupting threats within the community.

“We remain steadfast in sustaining peace in Southern Bukidnon,” Bulao said. “This success reflects the strength of community participation — by working together, we ensure that our communities remain safe and peaceful.”
