The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday reported the destruction of 190,000 grams of dried marijuana stalks and leaves with fruiting tops, valued at an estimated P22.8 million, in a coordinated operation in Taba-aw, Poblacion, Kibungan, Benguet.
The operation was conducted from 8:30 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. on 24 February by a joint team led by the PIU-PDEU-PSOG composite unit, in coordination with the Kibungan Municipal Police Station, the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company of the Benguet Police Provincial Office, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)–Cordillera Administrative Region.
Authorities discovered and destroyed marijuana plants at three separate sites within a communal forest. The first site yielded 70,000 grams of dried marijuana; the second, 100,000 grams; and the third, 20,000 grams.
Each site was documented, and sufficient samples were collected for laboratory examination by the Regional Forensic Unit–CAR before the plants were burned on-site.
PNP Chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. underscored the significance of the operation, saying the accomplishment reflected the dedication of law enforcement units in pursuing a drug-free community.
“When our agencies work together, law enforcement becomes more effective. We will not stop fulfilling our mandate — to protect the public and suppress all forms of illegal activity,” he said.
Nartatez added that the operation aligns with the PNP’s Focused Agenda and was carried out under the Enhanced Managing Police Operations framework, in support of the directive of Ferdinand Marcos Jr..
The PNP called on the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and support authorities in the ongoing campaign against illegal drugs, in line with its vision of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.”
