Senator Imee Marcos called on members of the Philippine Marine Corps to appear before the Senate following allegations that some Marines were reportedly used to deliver cash to top officials and personnel of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
“If there are accusations, lay them out clearly. If there is evidence, present it with full courage. Like a suitcase, its contents will remain secret unless it is placed on the table and opened,” she said in Filipino.
On Wednesday, Marcos filed Senate Resolution No. 317 seeking a Senate inquiry into the alleged money delivery scheme involving former military personnel reportedly employed by former House Speaker Zaldy Co, as well as the reported cooperation of certain government officials with the ICC.
Marcos said the issue should not be resolved through trial by publicity.
“It cannot be trial by publicity. The institution of the Senate, as well as Congress, and the dignity of every elected official,” she said.
Marcos said she was defending the Senate not because of personalities or political allies, but because it is the voice and bulwark of the nation.
“That is why if the very institution that serves as a bulwark is being accused, then it is only proper that we face each other here,” she said.
“If you are truly serving the truth, then let us face each other here in the Senate,” she added.
