PNVF plotting special Alas draft

Alas Pilipinas women’s team will get a chance to boost its pool by picking talents in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Draft set this year.
Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) president Tony Boy Liao bared the initiative that the sport’s local governing body and the PVL are exploring to help further strengthen the national squad.
The move of having Alas head coach Tai Bundit pick fresh and aspiring pros from the Draft will ensure player availability for international competitions.
“The national team will be selecting first. Let’s say 12 will be chosen. If there are 40 players for example. Twelve will be selected to join Alas, then the (regular) draft will begin with the 28 players left,” Liao said on Tuesday during the press conference held at the PNVF headquarters in Taguig City.
Under the proposed arrangement, chosen players in the special Alas draft will be locked with the national team for two years, with their salaries covered by the PNVF.
“Automatically, the 12 won’t be members of any club. They are now under the national team. No club will be allowed to sign any of the players selected by the national team. Their salaries will be shouldered by the national team,” Liao added.
