A congressional candidate for the 14 March special election in Antipolo City’s second district said he is supporting a bill seeking to prohibit political dynasties in the country.
Red Llaga, a 54-year-old businessman and civic leader, said it is high time to dismantle political dynasties so that alleged corruption cover-ups will end and more Filipinos will have the chance to serve.
“Political dynasties are not only here in Rizal province, but in almost the entire Philippines,” Llaga said in an interview on Wednesday night. “For a long time, political dynasties have been a system in our country. We will push for the reinforcement of that bill in Congress.”
“This isn’t personal. These measures are for everyone and will be applied nationwide, not just in Rizal,” he added.
Llaga also called on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to uphold a fair and orderly process for the special election.
“We also encourage all citizens to vote early in this special election. Let’s choose a leader who is truly worthy — someone with courage, compassion, and genuine care for the people. Above all, let’s pick someone who isn’t a thief and is free from the greed of corruption,” he said.
If elected, Llaga vowed to promote good governance and full transparency.
“We want transparency and good governance. We want to have a congressional report every year that will be open to the public with regard to funding, projects, and everything that will be done in Congress,” he said.
The Comelec is conducting a special election in the second congressional district of Antipolo City following the passing of Rep. Romeo Acop in December 2025.
