Vice President Sara Duterte formally announced her candidacy for the 2028 presidential elections during a press conference on Wednesday.
She also addressed critics and reflected on her political journey, including past impeachment complaints.
Duterte also criticized President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., alleging that he failed to fulfill key promises to the Filipino people.
She apologized to citizens for government shortcomings, citing rising prices, frequent flooding, food security concerns, and other pressing national issues.
Duterte was impeached in 2025 on charges that included graft and corruption, as well as an alleged assassination plot against then-ally and former running mate President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The Supreme Court in January affirmed its earlier ruling declaring the Articles of Impeachment against Duterte unconstitutional.
