Vice President Sara Duterte visited the wake of former House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. at the Simbaan na Bato (Annunciation of the Lord Parish) in Barangay Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City, on Sunday morning, 15 February.

The former five-time House Speaker’s remains lie in state at the Simbaan na Bato until early Monday morning.

Former president and current Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo also visited the wake of De Venecia. It was her second visit, after paying her respects at Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig last Wednesday.

A memorial Mass will be offered for the former House leader at the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag early Monday morning, 16 February.

His remains will then be transferred to the House of Representatives, where a necrological service will be held at the Plenary Hall at 10 a.m.

The next day, the former House leader’s remains will again be brought to Heritage Memorial Park. The burial is scheduled for Feb. 18 at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City.

De Venecia, who served as Speaker from 1992 to 2008, died on 10 February 2026, at the age of 89.

He ran for president in the 1998 presidential election but lost to then-Vice President Joseph Ejercito Estrada.
