In the quiet ritual of collecting and sending letters, a small piece of paper often carries more than postage. This Lunar New Year, the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) turned that idea into a celebration of movement, optimism, and cultural continuity with its “Year of the Horse” special postage stamps and souvenir sheet.
Launched on 14 February 2026 at Robinsons Manila, the stamps draw inspiration from the Horse in the Chinese zodiac, long associated with strength, freedom, endurance, and forward momentum. For many who follow the Lunar New Year tradition, the symbol resonates as a reminder of courage and renewal, themes that echo beyond calendars and festivities.
Designed by PHLPost graphic artist Jose Antonio A. Jayme, the commemorative piece blends Lunar New Year imagery with contemporary Filipino artistry. The design emphasizes motion and vitality, reflecting the spirit often attributed to those born under the Horse sign: energetic, determined, and driven by purpose.
In Chinese astrology, the Year of the Horse is widely regarded as a period linked to bold action, perseverance, and growth. It is seen as a time for pursuing ambitions, strengthening relationships, and embracing meaningful change, ideas that find expression not only in personal resolutions but also in cultural artifacts such as stamps.
Alongside the release, PHLPost partnered with the Philippine Philatelic Federation Inc. to present a stamp exhibition, highlighting how postage stamps continue to function as markers of history, identity, and storytelling. Beyond their practical role, stamps remain enduring symbols of heritage, preserving images and narratives that travel across borders and generations.
The “Year of the Horse” special stamps and souvenir sheets are available at Robinsons Manila and the Manila Central Post Office, inviting collectors, enthusiasts, and the simply curious to take part in a tradition where art, culture, and communication intersect.
