There are varied techniques for encouraging schoolchildren to do their homework. In Uttar Pradesh, India, a 10-year-old student at MRG School in the Karnailganj area got a “150” from his teacher for not completing his homework in the notebook.

When the boy arrived home limping, his father fumed, rushed to the school and complained to the principal. He also lodged a complaint with the police.

The English teacher concerned was immediately fired for beating the student in the legs with a stick 150 times for the incomplete homework, India Today (IT) reported.

A photo of the IT report showed the many hit marks on the boy’s legs.

The father said that English teacher Prakhar Singh also warned his son not to tell anyone about his punishment, or he would beat him again.

Meanwhile, a mother in Hubei province, central China, posted on social media a photo of her technique to motivate her son to do his homework. It went viral with more than 100,000 likes with other parents adopting her method, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported.

The mother’s photo posted in January showed her son lying on the floor, enjoying answering his homework that was printed on an oversized paper one meter wide.

The mother said she had printed two A0-size homework papers at a large format print shop for 25 yuan, according to SCMP.

Many who tried the technique said it was effective, though one mother from Heilongjiang province, northern China, told the mainland media outlet Xinwenfang that she spent 60 yuan printing four large answering sheets but her son was disappointed and became even more resistant to studying.
