The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Monday reiterated a strict ban on the use of government-owned vehicles during weekends and holidays, except when directly related to official duties.

The directive, issued under Memorandum Circular 2026-011, applies to all provincial, city, municipal, and barangay officials, whether elected or appointed, as well as personnel of the DILG Central, regional and field offices.

It also covers officials and employees of DILG-attached agencies, including the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

It warned that using government vehicles for personal purposes, especially on weekends and holidays, undermines accountability, integrity, and the standard of modest living expected of public servants.

The policy is based on existing laws and regulations, including the 1987 Constitution, Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, the Administrative Code of 1987, relevant Commission on Audit circulars, and Administrative Order No. 239.

These rules require that government vehicles be used strictly for official business.
