A classroom in Navotas sounded a little louder than usual on the last weekend of January. Laughter mixed with instructions about crossing streets, wearing helmets, and paying attention to traffic signs. For a group of elementary school students, road safety became something they could see, touch and practice.

The session marked the first 2026 run of the Kids on Safety program, led by Honda Foundation Inc. in partnership with Tamang Ride PH. The activity took place at Tanza Elementary School in Navotas City and involved children aged seven to 10. The program ran across two weekends, giving the kids time to absorb lessons and return with questions.

One of the most visible moments came during the helmet donation. Honda Foundation handed out 100 helmets to the students, each one fitted and explained carefully.

Safety habits start early, and wearing a helmet should feel normal, not optional. Teachers and parents watched as children lined up, many holding their new helmets like prized possessions.

The Kids on Safety program was designed to speak the language of younger learners. Instead of long lectures, instructors used everyday situations. Crossing a busy street. Riding a bicycle near cars. Being a passenger on a motorcycle.

The lessons focused on what children actually see around them and what they should do when faced with those situations.

The program draws from the road safety modules of Honda Safety Driving Center, which have long been used to train drivers and riders. These materials were simplified and adjusted for a younger audience.

Elements from the Teen Smart module were also adapted, even though that program usually targets older students. The goal was to build awareness early, without overwhelming the children.

Representatives from Honda Foundation, Honda Safety Driving Center and Tamang Ride PH joined school officials during the activity. Their presence reinforced that the program was not a one-off school visit, but part of a wider effort that connects homes, schools, and communities.

Road safety, according to the organizers, cannot rely only on traffic rules or enforcement. It has to be learned behavior. Honda’s global safety direction reflects this belief.

The company has set a long-term goal of zero collision fatalities involving Honda vehicles by 2050, with a target to cut such fatalities by half by 2030. Education programs like Kids on Safety sit alongside vehicle technologies such as Honda SENSING and built-in motorcycle safety features.
