Two members of the New People’s Army surrendered to authorities at the 42nd Infantry Battalion headquarters, turning over high-powered firearms and explosives.
The military identified the individuals as former key members of the insurgent group who had been involved in planning armed activities in Camarines Norte.
Their surrender on 4 February was the result of a joint effort between the 9th Infantry Division, the Philippine National Police and local government units.
Along with their surrender, the former rebels yielded several high-powered firearms, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and an improvised explosive device (IED) with various explosive components.
The 42nd Infantry Battalion has taken custody of the weapons and explosives for proper disposition under existing laws.
Military and police officials credited the surrender to intensified intelligence operations and the government’s ongoing reintegration programs.
Authorities stressed that the National Amnesty Commission is working alongside security forces to provide a pathway for insurgents to return to civilian life.
The military reiterated its call for remaining insurgents to avail themselves of the government’s amnesty and reintegration programs to pursue a peaceful life.
