Former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady spoke out after Bill Belichick was not selected as a first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer. The announcement surprised many in the NFL community, given Belichick’s record and achievements.

Brady and Belichick worked together for 20 seasons, from 2000 to 2019. Their partnership produced six Super Bowl championships in nine appearances, 219 regular-season wins, 17 AFC East titles, and the only 16-game undefeated season in NFL history in 2007.

Brady said he does not understand the Hall of Fame vote. He described Belichick as “incredible” and the coach he would choose to win a Super Bowl. Brady added that if Belichick is not a first-ballot Hall of Famer, then no coach should be.

The Hall of Fame committee’s decision drew scrutiny. Some voters were reportedly concerned about Belichick’s involvement in past controversies, including the 2007 Spygate scandal. Patriots owner Robert Kraft and other NFL figures defended Belichick, noting his record and impact on the game.

Despite the initial snub, Brady said he is confident Belichick will eventually be inducted. He noted that recognition may not always follow personal timelines but promised that the football community will celebrate Belichick when it happens.

Brady retired in 2023 and is now a lead NFL analyst for Fox. Belichick, 73, has coached in the NFL since the 1970s and built one of the sport’s most successful dynasties with the Patriots. Their combined legacy remains one of the most accomplished in NFL history.
