Malaysians boot out Nationals


The Philippines missed out on qualifying for the semifinals of the ASEAN Championship after a 0-1 loss to Malaysia on Saturday at the Kuala Lumpur Stadium.
With one win and three losses, the Nationals finished Group B at fourth place.
Pavithran Gunalan scored the lone goal with a header for Malaysia in the 16th minute as the Philippines failed to scored in the entire game.
The Philippines' got their sole win in the tournament at the expense of Laos, in a dominant 4-1 victory in Vientiane.
The Coach Carles Cuadrat-led squad was goalless in their bout against Thailand (0-1) and carved out a 1-4 decision in their opening match against Myanmar at the New Clark City Athletics Stadium in Capas, Tarlac.
The Nationals will now shift its focus on the FIFA ASEAN Cup, which begins on 24 September in Indonesia.
