Executive Secretary Ralph Recto on Wednesday expressed confidence that a version of the proposed anti-political dynasty bill could be approved before the filing of certificates of candidacy for the 2028 national and local elections.
“I think that as long as the ideas aren’t too extreme, we should be able to pass a version of the anti-political dynasty bill,” Recto told reporters.
He added that both chambers of Congress, along with the Office of the President, are currently studying the measure, emphasizing that it remains an administration priority.
“Both the House, the Senate, and the Office of the President are reviewing it. So we’ll see, but it is a priority,” he said.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had earlier urged lawmakers to fast-track the bill, which seeks to implement a long-standing constitutional provision prohibiting political dynasties as defined by law. Multiple versions of the measure have been filed in Congress, and some legislators have pushed for the President to certify it as urgent to speed up its passage.
Malacañang said the administration supports the bill amid shifts in the political landscape and continues to back reforms that broaden political participation and strengthen democratic institutions.
