Rain showers dampen PWO Day 2

Multiple game suspensions due to intermittent rain showers caused matches to drag longer and forced other pairings to be rescheduled on Day 2 of the Philippine Women’s Open on Tuesday.

With the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center courts unplayable, organizers were forced to push back the scheduled 2 p.m. start of action.

Matches in the prestigious Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 125 tournament resumed around 5:30 p.m.

Top seed Tatjana Maria of Germany is playing Leolia Jeanjean of France in the women’s singles Round of 32 as of press time.

Local bet Kaye Anne Emana and Tatiana Prozorova of Russia also met on Tuesday.

Filipino tennis sensation and world No. 49-ranked Eala is waiting for his Last 16 opponent between Japanese netters Nao Hibino and Himeno Sakatsume, who are also disputing the slot as of press time.

Second-seeded Eala swept world No. 163 Alina Charaeva of Russia, 6-1, 6-2, in the Round of 32 last Monday.

Meanwhile, the two doubles matches were rescheduled for today.

Elizabeth Abarquez and Rovie Baulete will face Hiroko Kuwata of Japan and Ye Qiuyu of China while Tennielle Madis and Stefi Aludo clash with the Japanese tandem of Kanako Morisaki and Mana Ayukawa in the Round of 16.
