Actress Anne Curtis has addressed the online buzz surrounding her much-discussed response to a netizen who criticized the heavy use of English dialogue in her upcoming film with Jericho Rosales.

The comment—interpreted by many as dismissive—quickly went viral, sparking debates on language, tone, and celebrity accountability online. Curtis, however, clarified that her remark was never meant to come across as sharp or disrespectful.

“Honestly, that wasn’t meant to blow up the way it did,” she said, explaining that her response was intended to be casual and conversational rather than confrontational.

To put things in perspective, Curtis compared the exchange to the way she normally banters with close friends, particularly fellow host Vice Ganda.

“Parang, kunwari, si Vice ’yung kausap ko,” she said. “Kunwari si Vice ’yung kausap emphasized said, ‘Ano ba ’yung movie niyo? Puro English!’ Gano’n ko rin naman siya sasagutin.”

She stressed that there was no intention to sound sarcastic or condescending. “It wasn’t meant to be like a pataray. Parang gano’n lang ’yun.”

Curtis also spoke candidly about the human side of being constantly visible online, acknowledging that emotions—and off days—are part of life, celebrity or not.

“Alam mo, minsan nasa ganun akong lugar na ngayon, baka hindi maganda gising ko,” she admitted. “But that’s okay. Sometimes we have our days, and that day was my day.”

At the heart of her explanation was a simple reminder often lost in viral moments and screenshot culture: celebrities are people, too.

“Tao lang naman tayo.”

With her clarification, Curtis hopes to shift the conversation away from outrage and toward understanding, highlighting how tone can be easily misread online—and how empathy and context still matter in the digital age.
