As global shifts reshape societies and industries, Filipino creatives are responding with design solutions that meet today’s most urgent needs. Through innovative products, systems and services, they are redefining design as a tool shaped by socio-cultural awareness, sustainability and social impact.
The Good Design Award Philippines, a program of the DTI–Design Center of the Philippines, was launched to bring this new generation of talents to the global stage. It champions Filipino creativity that exemplifies good design while embodying the spirit of malasakit — purpose-driven, people-centered and relevant.
Now in its fourth edition, the award continues to build a strong roster of exemplary creatives. In 2024, First United Building led the honorees, earning the Gran Prix or Malasakit Award for Placemaking. Gold Awards were given to Wika, an accessibility service for people with hearing or visual disabilities;
Hateka, a weaving initiative that revives traditional craft; and Ugnayan, a card deck designed to foster connection and reflection. Lakat, a sustainable footwear brand using pineapple fiber blends, received the Green Award.
From the 2022 edition, Cocopatch, a coconut-based wound dressing, earned the Gran Prix Malasakit Award, while advocacy-driven projects such as Macho Choir, an anti-catcalling campaign; and sakay.ph, a commuter navigation app, received Gold Awards.
Community-centered design defined the 2019 edition, with Book Stop Project earning both a Red Award and Green Award, alongside Gold Award winners Dead Whale and Makati Urban Patios who were both recognized for their socially-conscious innovations.
Beyond recognition, winners gain international exposure and access to new market opportunities. Robby Sylianteng of First United Building shares, “You don’t have anything to lose by putting yourself out there and applying. And if you win, there’s so much to be gained.”
The search for the 2026 batch of award recipients is ongoing. Nominations and entries may be submitted on or before 15 February.
