BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — The John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) confirmed an accident involving a free-ride electric shuttle bus on the afternoon of 16 January 2026.
A police report on the incident has yet to be released, but initial media reports indicated that one person was killed while four others were injured and rushed to the hospital. The fatality was identified as a 63-year-old woman from Manaoag, Pangasinan, who was with family members visiting the camp for a picnic in celebration of a relative’s wedding.
JHMC President and Chief Executive Officer Manjit Singh Reandi said an investigation is underway, noting that he is personally monitoring the situation. He added that JHMC teams have been directed to conduct a formal assessment and inquiry into the incident.
“The JHMC is currently coordinating with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Cordillera Basic Sector Transport Cooperative (CBSTC), the operator of the John Hay Loop, to verify the facts and ensure an appropriate response. These joint efforts aim to establish a clear timeline and account of the event,” Reandi said.
The corporation has yet to release specific details on the nature of the incident. Management said a comprehensive statement will be issued once the investigation is completed and all facts have been fully established.
