The Philippine government confirmed that a limited set of preparatory documents for ASEAN 2026 activities were leaked without authorization, but reassured the public that no sensitive deliberations or classified systems were compromised.
“Based on initial assessments, the documents are preparatory and administrative in nature and do not include substantive ASEAN agenda papers, official deliberations, or policy discussions,” the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said in a statement on Friday night.
No classified materials compromised
“There is currently no indication that ASEAN systems, platforms, or classified deliberative materials were compromised,” it added.
Authorities have launched an active investigation into the incident.
“The DICT is closely coordinating with the Philippine National Police, law enforcement, and intelligence agencies to support ongoing forensic, containment, and monitoring efforts,” the statement said, highlighting that reinforcements are already underway.
Cybersecurity measures being strengthened
The DICT stressed that cybersecurity measures for ASEAN 2026 venues, government digital infrastructure, and inter-agency coordination mechanisms are being strengthened as part of the country’s broader efforts to ensure safe and secure operations for major international events.
“The Philippine government treats matters affecting national security and international cooperation with the utmost seriousness,” the DICT said.
