Palace Press Officer Claire Castro on Monday pointed to the camp of Vice President Sara Duterte as the source of circulating rumors about the alleged impeachment of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr..

“A lawmaker is approached by supporters of a politician and they appear to be members of DDS,” Castro said during a press briefing Monday afternoon.

The lawmaker referred to was House Senior Deputy Minority Leader and Caloocan 2nd District Rep. Edgar Erice, who earlier claimed that Marcos Jr. could face impeachment over alleged “betrayal of public trust.”

“To the Vice President's supporters who want to file an impeachment complaint, let them first help their idol,” Castro said.

Castro also alleged that the move was intended to divert public attention from issues hounding the vice president, including allegations of embezzlement and receiving millions of pesos from drug lords.

She said the President remains unfazed by the rumors, noting that no official impeachment complaint has been filed against him.

Castro added that should any complaint be lodged, Marcos Jr. would respect the Constitution and the legal process.

On calls for accountability involving the vice president, Castro said that “those who should be held accountable, will be held accountable, (managot ang dapat managot).”

Asked about the whereabouts of former congressman Zaldy Co and former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, who are both reportedly overseas, Castro said she would seek updates from the Department of Justice and the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
