Four-time University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) champion mentor Juno Sauler takes over from LA Tenorio as head coach of Gilas Youth.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) announced on Saturday that the University of Santo Tomas assistant coach will call the shots from the sidelines as Tenorio will remain with the team as an adviser.
“The SBP welcomes coach Juno into the Gilas Pilipinas Youth Men’s team and thank coach LA Tenorio for his stint as head coach. Coach Juno brings a wealth of experience and deep connections nationwide that will help him put together the best team possible," SBP president Ricky Vargas said.
As a head coach for De La Salle University, Sauler won three straight UAAP women's titles from 1999 to 2001 and bagged the men's title in 2013.
He also won five Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) titles with Barangay Ginebra San Miguel as an assistant coach.
Sauler will be expected lead the squad for the SEABA U18 Championship this year.
The finalists from SEABA will qualify for the FIBA U18 Asia Cup, which serves as a qualifier for the 2027 FIBA Basketball U19 World Cup in Pardubice, Czech Republic.
