A group of Filipino and Chinese artists collaborated on a large-scale friendship mural highlighting shared values of unity, cooperation, and hope for future generations.
The four multimedia artists, Filipino painters Melvin Pollero and Jensen Moreno with Chinese artists CuriousBoy and Vance Yuan, worked side by side, exchanging ideas, techniques, and cultural perspectives while creating the artwork.
Pollero described the experience as a reaffirmation of artistic purpose, expressing hope that the collaboration would open doors for more international exchanges involving Filipino artists.
Titled around the theme “We shine together,” the mural features symbols representing both cultures. Pollero incorporated the jeepney as a symbol of Filipino ingenuity and aspiration, while the Chinese artists added elements drawn from their own traditions. A painted bridge and handshake at the center of the composition symbolize cooperation and the bridging of differences.
The artwork will be displayed until January at the VFS Global office in Shanghai’s Huangpu District before being permanently installed at the Philippine Consulate General in Changning District.
