The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said it will focus on maintaining existing flood control infrastructure in 2026, citing the absence of funding for new locally funded flood control projects.

In a statement over the weekend, the DPWH said its proposed 2026 budget includes no allocation for new flood control projects, in line with a directive to streamline expenditures.

Instead, the department said P2.49 billion has been proposed for maintenance and operating expenses for existing flood control programs, including Oplan Kontra Baha.

“These funds will support essential declogging, desilting, dredging, repair, and clearing operations to ensure the functionality of waterways and drainage systems nationwide,” the DPWH said.

The department added that it will prioritize maximizing available resources to reduce flood risks amid fiscal constraints.
